Brooklyn Bridge TV Show - War of the Worlds Parts I & II

Brooklyn Bridge TV Show - War of the Worlds Parts I & II

Brooklyn Bridge, created by famed TV producer Gary David Goldberg (Family Ties, Spin City, Lou Grant and more), was a semi-autobiographical series based on his childhood in 1950s Brooklyn, ran on CBS from 1991 to 1993, and drew a small but cultish audience who followed it through numerous timeslot shifts and long disappearances. It was a beautifully written, acted and produced story of a three-generation Jewish family's simple and credible life together. Marion Ross, previously the white-bread Mrs. Cunningham on ABC's Happy Days, starred, and demonstrated her impressive comic range, as the Jewish family matriarch, grandmother Sophie Berger. The cast also included veteran character actors Amy Aquino and Louis Zorich, and then-child actress Jenny Lewis, who went on to indie rock stardom. Art Garfunkel wrote and sang the theme song- “that place, just over the Brooklyn Bridge/will always be home to me.” The series won awards, great reviews and the hearts of many viewers but, sadly, then it disappeared from view, though not from mind. Many people remember it as superior and standout television and would like to have the chance to see it again. My favorite episode was a two-part show, War of the World, wherein neither Irish Catholic Katie Monahan's parents nor Alan Siver's grandmother and mother think they should be dating out of their faith, so the desperate kids arrange a meeting between the two families. Things go from bad to worse during the uncomfortable dinner when obnoxious Uncle Willy and his wife Miriam turn up at the same Chinese restaurant the families have chosen as neutral ground. While I've tried to find DVDs of this series numerous petitions to urge CBS Entertainment have apparently failed.I have a dozen VHS tapes with many of the episodes but, they are poor quality and contain commercials. While the video quality is poor, fans of this show that haven't had a chance to see it in two decades will enjoy it, as well as a few of the old commercials
